If you had $10 billion to spend on making
the world better, how would you spend it?
301班 林恩齊
Have you ever considered what you would do if you were a billionaire? This is a dream that many people desire. Most of them would spend the money on themselves or making their own life better. However, for a considerable amount of time, the Earth has been dealing with two problems, climate change and poverty. The reason why I would spend 10 billion dollars to make this world better is because I hope I can do something for the community.
Climate change is becoming increasingly serious due to the deterioration of the environ-ment. Factory exhaust, air pollution, etc. are all factors that lead to climate change As for me, I would separate it into three parts. These are building more wind turbines and solar panels, donating to charities, food banks, and schools around the world, and to purchase high-tech medical equipment for hospitals.
I would spend 4 billion dollars to build wind turbines and solar panels. According for to the Global Wind Energy Council in 2019, wind power installations helped avoid over 1.1 billion tons of CO2. It also said that wind turbines provide electricity without burning any fuel or polluting the air. Aside from wind turbines, solar panels are also important for the whole world. Humans keep wasting the power source we have, and climate change is getting worse and worse. So, to change this serious problem, I would use this money to improve the environment.
Moreover, the gap between rich and poor in modern times is a serious problem. For this reason, I would donate 3 billion dollars to charities, food banks, and schools around the world. Itwill enable people to enjoy a more equal distribution of resources. Besides, there are some students who do not have the access to education in some poor countries.
Finally, I would use the last 3 billion dollars to purchase high-tech medical equipment.
In recent years, more and more people are dying from cancer, heart disease, and Covid-19.
Although this has prompted most countries to make corresponding decisions, cases are still not declining in certain countries. If we can directly purchase medical equipment to these countries instead of donating money, perhaps we can allow people to enjoy more medical resources.
To sum it up, this ten billion dollars is a big amount of money. It all depends on how we make good use of it. What's more, this money has a certain influence, fostering a sense of collective responsibility and compassion.
What is something important about
which nearly everybody is wrong?
302班 陳廷鎮
There's always a problem that goes unnoticed or is ignored by everyone. In the worst-case scenario, it could be that everyone has the wrong idea or perception about it, but they do not know how to face it accordingly. Hence, they keep ignoring the situation.
When we debate something that almost everyone is incorrect about, it doesn't just involve misconceptions.. It is possible that someone has been keeping the truth hidden from you since you were born.
Take the Tiananmen Square demonstration in China as an example. This assassin is also known by the name six-four'. The event occurred on June 4th, 1989, just like it was named. Many students are former General Secretary of the Central Committee, which is why this event is so important. At the beginning of the accident, because the soldiers didn't have enough education to have independent thinking by themselves, the Chinese government controlled their mind to do work for them and repress the rebellious people. This is an usual occurrence of brainwashing.
After a Chinese government force controlled the rebels against the populace and settled the matter down, the government started brainwashing again, but at this time, the victim isn't the soldiers, it is the public. The Chinese government realized that keeping control of the people wasn't the good way to solve the problem, they needed to let the people trust the government even if they experienced nightmares that they would never want to think about. Teenagers were misled about history because the government rewrote the entire story of Tiananmen Square and added it to the education syllabus. It is evident that they did well with this plan and it was successful. The data indicates that only fifteen individuals are capable of telling the truth out of a hundred people.
So, from this example, you can see that the government just keeps escaping the real problem and chooses the worst way to settle it, just because they don't know how to face off with the victim. This may seem strange, but it's the truth. We are unsure if it is the appropriate course of action or not. It's possible that the only suitable method is to make everyone wrong.
Next, let's talk about the environment. Have you ever heard about greenwashing? It is a kind of a business strategy where entrepreneurs spend a huge amount of money on advertisements to make the consumers believe that their products and policies are actually environmentally-friendly.
To provide you with a specific example, let me use Starbucks, a global chain of coffee shops.
In 2019, Starbucks replaced the straws with cup lids with a small hole in order to protect the environment. While it seems that this behavior decreases straw waste, it actually creates more waste because the new cup lid contains more plastic than the original straws. Starbucks asserted that the plastic cups they utilize are recyclable and can be reused. But according to statistics, only 9% of plastics in the world are recycled; therefore, if the recycling rate of plastics does not increase, replacing cup lids will cause more harm to the environment. act intended to cause destruction.
In the amount of his environmental protection plan to make an advertisement, but not action.
Is it a kind of brainwashing? Yes, it is. But it's more like a misdirection. It can effectively cheat people and make him More famous among the businessmen.
Which is more important, safety or fun?
301班 黃詠稜
In daily life, people are always concerned about having fun, but at the same time, they want to be safe. However, it may be difficult to have both at the same time. So, which one is more important?I once read a news report, which mainly explained that a newlywed couple was holding an activity to guess the gender of their baby. During this activity, they specially invited a pilot to fly a plane and sprinkle colorful glitter in the sky. It was supposed to be a very joyful atmosphere, but because everyone was too excited, including the pilot, errors occurred during the flight, which made the supposedly joyful atmosphere heavy. This accident even led to the death of the pilot. Because of this incident, I believe that safety is more important than having fun.
First of all, we only have one life. We don't get a wizard who suddenly appears and casts a spell to bring us back to life, that only happens in novels or movies. This kind of thing is impossible to happen, so I think life is very precious and worth cherishing. I even think it's the most important thing we should value in the world. After all, as long as we are alive, many unsatisfactory things can be changed to make up for them, but once a life is lost, there is nothing we can do and cannot change. If we only pursue the exciting feeling of the moment and only enjoy the momentary joy, we will lose the opportunity to try new things in the future and lose the good time with our parents or friends. If we know how to protect ourselves and keep ourselves in a safe environment, there are still many things waiting for us to explore in the future.
Secondly, we should respect our own lives. Our mother gave birth to us when she was ten months pregnant. Pregnancy is a very difficult journey. For example, take a sleep. We could sleep until dawn, but when mom was pregnant, the weight we brought made her uncomfortable. In order to be comfortable, she needs to constantly turn over to find a comfortable position, which brings serious problems to her sleep. If our mother worked so hard but we lost our lives because of our greed for pleasure, wouldn't it be a waste of ten months of our mother's hard work? And we may not be conscious when we die, but parents must bear the grief of losing their children.
Some parents even suffer physical deterioration and illness due to grief. So why don't we play less and protect ourselves more so that things like this won't happen.
Thirdly, people are often curious about everything in the world, and we always want to try it, but that is all under the premise that we are still alive. If we die today, can we still have these opportunities? I don't mean that we have to stop having fun to protect ourselves. What I'm saying is that we can do anything fun, but we should consider the dangers of that thing. So I think there is nothing wrong with having fun, but once we lose future opportunities just because of momentary pleasure, isn't it so worth it?
To summarize the reasons I mentioned above, I think we can have fun, but we have to consider the consequences and dangers. After all, we only live once, and we must respect the life our mother gave us. If you don't have life, you have nothing.
